Hey guys, just a quick question about the process of getting my E-2 visa.
I have sent all my documents to my employer and he has submitted them to the consular authorities. They told him that they'll issue a reference number which I bring with me to my local Korean Embassy (Dublin) along with my passport. Then in 5 working days I can collect my passport with the E-2 visa in it.
The problem is that I have already booked my flights, because I am an idiot. My flight plan is to leave Ireland on the 17th May and visit Vietnam on the 19th until the 30th when I will fly on to Seoul. I won't be issued the visa reference number until the 14th May, which leaves me with no time to get my passport processed by the Embassy in Dublin.
My question is can I do the stamping process in the Korean Embassy in Hanoi? I will be staying there for 11 days so it seems like more than enough time, it would save me the hassle of rescheduling flights. My employer has advised me to do this, after checking with the Dublin embassy, who I can't call til tommorow. I've heard of people already in Korea having to do visa runs to Japan for the E-2 visa so this seems like a similar plan.
What do you guys think? Is this a practical plan or would I be better off just rescheduling my flights for a later date and dealing with the Dublin embassy? |

Yes, you should be fine, but being Irish myself, I wonder how we manage to consistently dick up like this? |

Have a similar bureaucratic/organisational horror story?

No other opinions on this? I called the Embassy in Dublin and they say that I need to do it there because its my first visa.
I emailed the recruiter and he is just as adamant that I can get it issued in a third country. He cited this webpage - http://jpn-fukuoka.mofat.go.kr/kor/as/jpn-fukuoka/consul/visa/index.jsp
Its in Korean, which I can't speak, but google translate seems to confirm that they do issue E-2 visas but theres no mention of whether this is just for renewals or first timers. |

That used to be the rule, but it may have changed. |

| If it's your first E2 visa, you have to get it from your home country. Had this been your second visa, you could get it at any Korean embassy. Change those flights. |
