|
I am thinking specifically about public school teachers back home. I am not referring to private things which teachers may do outside the purview of their students (things the students would not be aware of in any shape, form or fashion).
What I am referring to are things which the students are/will be aware of (via their senses).
Please, no personal attacks................ |

Why do you keep beating this drum? Your question has been answered in nearly every permutation, and with every thin veiling. Just stop. Really. |

YES!!!!!!!! Probably one of the most important aspects of teaching!!!! That goes for Korea and anywhere else. Obviously it's only my opinion but I doubt you could find another teacher worth his/her spit that would disagree. |

Just say "practice what you preach" and be done with it.
Should janitors throw their own trash in the bin and not on the ground?
Should police stop at stop signs and not run red lights?
Should librarians be quiet in the library?
Should a firefighter put out their cigarette when they are done smoking?
Should a fitness guru eat healthy foods?
The list goes on and on. We can sum up all your threads with the following:
SHOULD PEOPLE BE HYPOCRITES? NO.
NEXT QUESTION? |

All adultsnot just teachersshould try to be good role models. You seem to harp on the physical, which, while important, isn't everything. In the 6th grade, I had a very fat English teacher, but she turned me on to several new authors in our after-class chats. She influenced me a great deal. Sure, her weight wasn't healthy and I didn't want to emulate it, but I didn't think that she was a bad person. Years later, I learned through another teacher that I was friendly with that she had had a health issue that caused the weight, which is usually just an excuse, but was true in her case. Either way, she was a wonderful teacher, and I'd have never gotten into certain genres had she not taken the time to really get to know me and introduce me to a whole new world of books.
That is a role model. |

Fair enough, but you are the one who mentioned the physical aspect of role models on this particular thread, not me.
My question here is related to public school teachers as good overall role models. |

OP, whoever you are, time to throw the sock out. It's getting tedious. |

You have asked about being a role model on at least 2 other threads, and physical traits were brought up both times. Stop starting new threads about the same thing. Physical, moral (and for readers who didn't follow them, he considered being gay immoral, lumping gays in with physical abusers and alcoholics,) whatever. Stop trolling. I'm surprised the mods haven't locked this thread. I do hope that they do so, and soon. You're a troll, and likely a sock. |

Why so much anger/hate, people? What is wrong with civil discourse/debate? I often read threads here that upset/anger me, but I don't go on rants at the OP. Loosen up, please!
I apologize if I struck a raw nerve with my original "obese teachers" post. Honestly, I was dumbfounded/at a loss that most of you seemed to believe that it is perfectly acceptable for those who choose to lead such obviously unhealthy lifestyles to be considered as good role models.
A friend suggested that I rephrase my question to ask about the desirability of teachers as role models (less offensive to obese teachers, thus more likely to produce less inflammatory replies). I guess he was wrong.........

You can always have the best physical attributes on the internet. I am going to go exercise. Then, I will lift weights. Then, I will run a marathon. Then, I will help an old lady cross the street. Then, I will return a 500 won coin to the police station when I find it on the ground. After that, I will sit on the train and wait for someone to forget their umbrella and I will kindly remind them about it. Next, I will go up and down the highways and clean up the trash, sorting it all into neat piles. Next time I shop at a grocery store, I will put my food down and bag all the groceries for people in front of me.
Face it, you can never be better than me. I am the ultimate role model. The best you'll ever get will be following my shadow. Now, don't get angry at your useless and pathetic lifestyle....one I would never condone in the classroom |

Wow, you are a great role model! I want to be just like you, especially if you are a good teacher too. Are you? |
