Hi there,
I'm moving to Gangseo-gu, Seoul at the end of June and was wondering if anyone could recommend a place to play Ping Pong. Will I find it in parks, open to the public? Are there expat or expat-friendly bars/clubs where I could play and have a good time? |

There are "tak-gu sil' or 'bang', ie "ping pong rooms" scattered throughout-- similar to pool halls (also in abundance), where you rent a table and paddles by the hour. They're also quite popular on university campuses, usually in the basements of student dorms (and they're free, but you kinda have to be connected to the uni to use the facilities.)
Haven't seen any in parks/bars, as you mentioned. Not a pickup kind of game, either, in those rooms- you need to go with a partner.
Also, unless you play pen grip (versus handshake), most places DON'T have the double-sided paddles, so either bring yours along, or be prepared to buy one ($20? and up) in most of the big supermarkets (Emart/Homeplus/ Lotte) when you get here. |
