So, I'm officially the idiot that lost their passport while out of the country. I've searched my apartment at least 17 million times, and cant find it anywhere. My ARC card and passport (they were together) have both gone missing.

Has anybody had experience replacing their passport? I'm getting really confused. I know once I have my passport it shouldn't be hard to get my ARC card, so I'd like to start at square one with my passport.

According to the website it says (for Canadians living abroad) that my guarantor for my passport has to have known me for at least 2 years, live within the seoul region, and be either a mayor, dentist, doctor, official, or the like. I've only been here for 8 months and obviously don't know anybody who fits this bill!! I should note that I'm married and my husband lives with me here in Korea. He fits the criteria for a guarantor if we were residing in Canada.

Getting my birth certificate sent over here, and getting passport photos and everything doesn't sound terribly difficult but I'm confused about this guarantor business! Am I able to send passport photos back to Canada and use a guarantor from there?

Also, am I supposed to report it missing to the police?

You don't need a guarantor.

4 references (with names and contact information) who have known you for 2 years (country of residence is not important) and who are not related to you.

Get the form, Declaration in Lieu of Guarantor. It just adds $50 to your costs.

You will need a police report of the loss to give to the embassy as well as your proof of citizenship, forms and photos.

This may sound like a completely ridiculous question, but what about the visa that is inside my old passport? Is that replaced by the ARC card? Like, when I have my passport & ARC card replaced, I shouldn't have troubles getting out/back into Korea right?

AS long as you have your ARC you will have no problem returning to Korea.

If you lost your ARC as well then you will need to either:

a) enter as a tourist and get your status adjusted and apply for your replacement ARC at your local immigration office before you return to work or

b) explain the loss of your ARC when you enter Korea and go to the immigration supervisor and deal with it at the airport. This will allow you to enter on your E2 but you will still have to go to your local immigration office to get a replacement ARC ASAP. (best choice).

(1) You will need to go to the police station and make a full report.

(2) When you have finished with your report bring it into the Canadian embassy.

(3) The Canadian Embassy will allow you to use the phone on the first floor to talk to someone for some reason they don't do one on one interviews anu more.

(4) You will need at least two pieces of ID like birth cirtificate, drivers licence. also your Canadian citizenship would be good.
