|
|
Here's the problem: I want to get a job in South Korea but I don't want to get the job right away. I want the job in like April 2012 or a month or two after that.
The question is: When should I apply to job posts in South Korea or get a recruiter if I want to start work around April or May 2012?
Thanks! I"m a newbie, so any help with this would be great. |

The jobs for April 2012 will start appearing around February/March 2012. That's when you should be doing it. Make sure you order your FBI CBC in January, if you slack off on that you're going to be in a time crunch. Trust me, I know!
I started looking for jobs for early August 2011 in February, and most recruiters wouldn't even talk to me. |

Start applying AFTER you have your documents in hand and 30-60 days before you want to start work.
If you have everything in hand the timeline from contract offer to landing in Korea is 12-21 days.
The job search typically takes less than 30 days.

Thanks for the quick reply! I have just mailed out yesterday my diploma to my school. I want it notarized, they will send it to the secretary of state to get it apostilled. I have also sent out all 3 background checks, the FBI one, and the two states that I have lived in. Both NC and WI. How long do you think I will get them back? And if I don't get them back in 2-3 months, how can I track them down? I know for the school I will call them, so should I just call the FBI, and state ones also? I hope to not have any problems but just in case! Thanks again |

You will get your background check back as long as you sent them the fingerprints and money. They will send you the results in a special FBI envelope that has a large fine for re-using for personal purposes. I sent my FBI background check at the end of October in 2010, then moved from San Francisco to North Carolina (I told them I was moving in the accompanying letter), and they sent me the results to North Carolina on December 15, 2010. |

I'm pretty sure you only have a six month window to use a background check, so it may be unusable by the time you want to come over. |

Yep, you can use it after 6 months so you jumped the gun. Also, the state-level CBC isnt valid anymore, only the federal FVI one, so you can just get rid of the two state ones you get. |

Thanks for the updates. I didn't know that they don't need the state ones anymore and that the FBI CBC was only good for the first 6 months.
Oh gee. LOL, I guess I'll have to take this slow. |

In my experience, it's easier to find a job where they needed someone last week than to find a job where they need someone over a month in the future.
If a school posts an opening more than a month in advance, they're looking to reject people. They want to feel like they didn't accept the first person to apply. You might be 95% of what they want, but they'll reject you in hopes of getting a perfect candidate. In the end, they take whoever shows up at the last minute--even if they're not totally qualified.
Universities may be more circumspect and professional. If an education board is recruiting candidates for public schools, they tend to just pick whoever's in the right place at the right time. |
