Hey,
Someone sent me a link to this company and I was wondering if any of you have had experience training with them or using their courses? The program in particular is only a weekend (2 day) session and provides a TEFL certificate at the end. Here's the link: http://internationaltefltraining.com/index.php?view=details&id=67%3Avancouver-tefl-course&option=com_eventlist&Itemid=89
For some reason, it seems rather iffy to me. Will this certification from them even be taken seriously by employers? The time invested just seems too short...! If anyone has experience with these types of programs, please share. |

Getting TEFL certified is a strange thing, its not really regulated unless you get a CELTA which is something a little bit different. I am not even sure there is accreditation for TEFL, what seems to matter is the course hours.
EPIK for instance only recognizes courses that are over 100 hours. I actually took a month long certification course in Prague. It was good and included student teaching, but was pricey. A lot of people take online courses and they seem to be the same price as this one your looking at. I am skeptical as to how much you can learn in a weekend about teaching English.
If your looking to apply to a hagwon it can help make your resume a bit more competitive maybe, and give you leverage for higher pay. |

Just take the 100 hour online course. Save yourself some money and get the pay bump. If at the end of the year, you decide your serious about teaching as a career. Get a CELTA and or masters. |
