I'm not from Australia but to get on to a graduate primary school teaching course what prerequisites do you need? I'm thinking in terms of maths, English etc from high school/uni.

There are two ways to becomes a primary school teacher in Australia.
1. do a 4 year B.Ed specializing in Primary.
2. do a 3 year psychology specializing in child psychology and a post-grad teaching course.

And if you are a male: get a sex-change. In Australia, male primary schools teachers are always under suspicion as poofters out to molest children. You'll be hounded and nobody will be your friend until you're driven out of the profession.

I thought Aussie males were way to macho to teach kids. Except in Korea, I mean.

Doesn't matter how macho you are, just as a sexual harassment accusation destroys the powerless in US, molester accusation destroys male teachers in Australia. And because white women can't be seen to be doing anything wrong, they take this freekick between the uprights with reckless abandon.

This is a prime example of why you should never ask for advice on the internet. You get people spouting off about things they have absolutely no idea. In this case the information by Andrew isn't even close.

There are other ways to get certified in Australia, including one many, many teachers there do. If you already have an undergrad in any subject you can apply to many post graduate diploma programs offered by many universities. If your an international student you'll most likely be accepted as long as your williing to pay the exuberant tution fees. Complete the one year course (which is quite intensive) and voila! You'll be granted a license from the state college of teachers and certified to teach.
