I need a summer suit. I've checked a variety of Dept Stores: Hyundai, Lotte, IPark, Galleria, etc. And the average price for a decent summer suit was about 350,000 Won.
I also checked a few custom tailor shops in Itaewon and the price figures they gave me were between 270k to 350k. That's a really good price for a custom made suit and even better it's more or less close to what you would get from a dept store.
But I've got a few questions for anyone that bought one here:
Can you recommend shops? (Doesn't have to be in Itaewon)
How is the quality of the fabrics they're using?
Quality of stitching?
Will it stand the test of time? (Eg: 4-5 years) |

If none of the suits from the department stores fit you then you have to go to Itaewon or Dongdaemun....
But I would always try to get one from dept store first....better quality. |

Ok so quality is an issue at these custom tailors? |

I'd say so.....they're mostly old guys who've been doing it for decades. They learned their trade in the days when Korean tailoring was infamously bad. Low-quality material glued together is typical.
They don't tend to keep up-to-date either, so you're likely to get a
'grandad' style suit with a 12-inch zipper on the pants!
Korean custom tailors have never had a good rep and they still don't.
In dept stores you can get quality modern suits styled in Europe. And the price is not bad during the frequent sales. |
