|
|
Hello everyone,
I suppose the ladies would be more helpful in this situation, but guys feel free to offer advice. I need a few pairs of shoes for work.
The profile:
1) Decent heels but non-hooker type/wedges preferred
2)Generally conservative (as in no Lady Gaga creations)
3) I want to buy a few pairs with solid colors (no multiples that might clash with what I'm wearing)
4) COMFORT is really important. I don't fancy teetering around in ridiculous shoes as I have on numerous occasions and ending up with war-ravaged feet.
5) I am a size 250-255 here so my feet are considered "big".
I'm on a seriously tight budget this year so that is crucial!
Where's the best place to go? Dongdaemun?
Any advice (even in jest) would be appreciated.
Thank you. |

You should reconsider, spending a little more on hooker type shoes would allow you to recover your losses quite rapidly! |

Doota in Dongdaemun has a few floors of womens shoes, although I can't be sure of quality vs. cost. I want to say 3rd, 4th or 5th has a whole floor of them. They vary from work-style to slutty. |

Not even necessary in my neighborhood as I've had a few offers minus the foot thrashers.
Seriously though, seems like Itaewon is my best bet. Thanks everyone! |

Oh my-- comfortable, attractive wedges (or other contemporary heel style) in size 8 that are priced for someone on a budget? Hate to sound discouraging, but, based on my personal experience looking pretty devotedly for this very thing on countless shopping trips in at least 3 Korean cities over a significant amount of time, I must say: prepare to waste a lot of time searching yet never finding anything close to what you're envisioning.
If possible, have someone send you some. Or use one of the few US retailers that ship here. Be smart about shipping costs & customs limits, and you'll still end up paying less, not to mention getting a much higher quality product, than if you purchase what you'd probably end up settling for here...
I personally think the shoe manufacturers who are making these atrociously uncomfortable and poor quality high heels that are so ubiquitous here should be criminally prosecuted. In addition to being absurdly overpriced, they cripple women's bodies and limit our mobility. Nary a day goes by when I don't see at least one woman struggling to mask the pain of attempting to make it out and about in the world wearing one of these useless pairs of shoes.
And guys (or ladies, as the case may be), if you're ever on a date with a female and she starts to act grumpy or distracted out of the blue and inexplicably needs to end the date early, there's a good chance it's because her footwear is torturing her and her top priority is going home and taking those things off.... |

This site has some good brands and they ship free to South Korea
As someone who wears a size 11 shoe I have a feeling I might have to order some stuff from it.

I've purchased about 5 pairs of shoes in Korea, all from those shops at the subways/streets of Myeongdong and they were all terrible. During monsoon season, the rain water completely killed them all and they all fell apart. One time, my shoes fell apart as I was exiting the subway and the nice people working in security(?) helped me glue my shoes together and gave me some ice cream (I look very young... they probably thought I was a middle/high school kid on vacation...)
I've bought Korean-brand shoes online before (shipped to Canada from China, but is a Korean-brand) and they've lasted a long time and are in great condition (I bought boots and been using them for 3 years). However I haven't found those brands IN Korea =( |

What is your budget exactly? 100,000 will get you something decent on sale in Itaewon. |

It's not that hard to find a 250. I find them in all kinds of places. You just can't care too much about the quality. Shoes here are built for a season, and if you don't like shiny things, you're probably S.O.L. |

Illysook,I don't mind shiny things that much. However,I prefer not to go to work looking like I should be in a different sort of profession. The quality issue is huge, yes, and I really don't fancy paying an arm and a leg for something that's really not worth it. As for everyone suggesting buying shoes online: with the massive discrepancies in sizes these days,I would rather not risk buying shoes or clothes on the internet. |
