|
|
hey guys,
my new place (officetel) has a wooden bed frame and a really hard mattress included (as part of the furnishings). it's no problem to sleep on when i'm dead-tired, but most nights it's a bit of a struggle.
any idea on how i can find comfortable bedding for cheap? i live in Busan close to Home Plus and MegaMart. I'm not looking for Tempurpedic because they're pricey, but definitely something that's comfier than what I have now. It'll go a long way in making this place feel like "home" to me.
Also, since what I have now came as part of the furnishings, is it ok to throw it out or sell it when I get new, comfier bedding? |

I'd imagine no you wouldn't be able to throw out or sell your mattress/bedding, the school pays for your furnished apartment right? The furnishings are part of that apartment, doesn't belong to you.
Look for a mattress pad. |

You need one of those cheaper foam toppers sold at small bedding stores. That saved me my first year in Korea, and made my bed feel pretty much normal once I put a blanket over it. They cost around 40,000 or so in Seoul. Not sure about Busan. You can also spend a round 100,000+ and get a comfy memory foam mattress topper at Costco. |

Try the bedding stores that are quite popular in every neighborhood. They only sell pillows, mattress toppers, blankets, and floor mattresses. You may be able to haggle with them if you can speak Korean. The stuff at these kind of stores is usually cheaper than Emart, Lotte, and Home Plus.
If you're a guy I hope you like pink, yellow, and other pastel colors..... |

A softer thin top mattress is your best solution. No need to replace the mattress you already has as it will serve as a good base (unless there is something seriously wrong like springs sticking through the cover). |

Why so Koreans love hard beds so much? Surely they don't sleep on them? Don't they only do it to torture foreigners? Though I currently have a bed that is too soft and it gives me back problems, so beware of sleeping on squishy materials! |

A lot of Koreans still sleep on the floor.....
Firm mattresses are better for your back, but if you're a side sleeper as I am they can be torturous for your hips and shoulders. |

other posters gave you good advice on fixing your problem, but if you do decide to throw out the bed, remember that you are going to have to pay 50,000-100,000 won to get rid of the bed.
You will have to tell the security people at your building/complex about it and they will call the trash company for a pickup. If your Korean skills are not so hot, I would bring a coworker or friend with you so you dont get ripped off. |

No way should you throw out your bedding because the public schools check to see that you still have it when you leave. It is the property of the school that buys it for you.
Not throwing out the mattress that is given to you is pretty obvious.
In the winter time you will learn to love the quilts that are provided for you by the schools. |
