...of interest are.

Hi,

I'm living at Bonghwasan. Got here 3 weeks ago. However, I feel very detached and remote from everything. I seem to be at least 45 minutes from a cinema, nice park, or even a street that I could walk along for a look and to relax.

Could someone please have a look at the subway map and tell me where are the nearest stops that I could get off and have a wander around. A nice park, a nice street with cafes/restaurants. Things like that.

While my job is going fairly well, I'm getting a bit down about having to stay in my apartment every evening because the places I know about are so far away on the subway.

I'm going to try Konkuk University this evening. Are there any other places nearer that I could try out?

Second question: Is there any way of finding out where are the nearest

Emart
Pizza Hut
KT Global Store (hoping to find someone who speaks English, I need to buy a phone)

to my place?

Thanks for reading.

K.

hop on google earth and look around your area. I can almost guarantee you that there is a park less than 10 minutes from your apartment.

Then check out google maps if you want to find your nearest whatever.

Me and another poster (that I know) live the Konkuk Stn. area. Busy tonight, but if you find yourself coming back, we're always down to hang out.

I lived near there until two years ago......

There's a big Homeplus.

Bongwhasan mountain (it's a hill, but hills are called mountains in Korea) is a nice easy hike.

Costco is a short taxi ride away at Sangbong Station.

Is there a CGV cinema up at Hagye Station? Or is it near Junggye?

Hi guys,

Thanks for the replies.

I have looked on google maps for a park. There is one close to me but it is not the type I had in mind. I was thinking of one that had a soccer pitch that I could run around. But there are none within a few stops of Bonghwasan.

I know about the Homeplus, I shop there regularly but was looking for another option as Homeplus doesn't have much for me. I'm vegetarian. I will have a look for that Costco, thanks.

I went down to Konkuk yesterday evening. Really liked the buzz down there. That's what I was looking for but would like to know if there are other places nearer to me.

Regarding Konkuk, I ate in Pizza Hut. Is that area the main part of Konkuk? i.e. is that area the busiest or is there somewhere else that is also busy?

Would really like to find out where the nearest cinema to me is. That would be a great help. Can't understand why websites like CGV aren't in English too. Ridiculous.

What are the other large cinema chains?

Thanks guys.

Why? Confused

Some other cinema chains are Lotte Cinema and Cinus.

You are not that remote either..
Lots of advantages to living up near Bonghwasan..
There is cleaner air there for a start and is a mainly outdoory kind of place.
Bukhansan National Park is nearby and there are lots of mountain trails etc..

Nowon is nearby too. The Lotte Dept Store there right by the station has a cinema.
There are some good bars/ restaurants in the area too and is generally a very happening place.
Line 6 means...Itaewon isnt a million miles away with all its comforts..and what not!!

I'd suggest too having a look at the seoul bus site
http://bus.congnamul.com/SeoulRouteWebApp/view_english/map.jsp

Scroll around and find the nearest bus stops to your home and then you can map out where and how to get to certain places. I imagine a bus to Nowon would be more convenient by subway for example I would think..

I haven't lived up there but have worked in the area a bit.

There is def plenty to do there and im sure its a very decent place to live.

Thanks so much guys. I'm absolutely delighted with the news that there is a cinema in Nowon. That's so good to hear.

I tried looking up cinema sites to find out which is nearest to me but they are all in Korean. Hence asking here. I have tried to search for info but have to resort to bugging you guys on here as I can't find much online that isn't in Korean.

Will definitely check out Nowon. Are there many foreigners there? Any western restaurants?

And will definitely check out that park if I can find it on the map. (Another problem is that a lot of the places on Google maps are not in English).

Thanks very much for the help guys.

There's also a rinky-dinky little local cinema just past Costco at Sangbong Station.

It's worth a visit as it's so funny and 'Korean'......it's like an artifact from 1970's Korea.

outside of Itaewon, Nowon (junggye in particular) has one of the largest foreigner populations in Seoul.

Learn Korean. Will keep you occupied short-term and help you find the places to go long-term.

You know you're in Korea, right, which is why the websites don't necessarily have English versions?

When I lived near Bongwhasan the nearby Jungnang-gu office offered free Korean classes to foreigners. Maybe they still do.

From that link. Could be helpful for the OP in the mean time. I've never used it though so no idea if it's any good
