Hi everyone,
I had a very strange experience today with the Korean Post. My sister shipped me a PS3 game via the United States Postal Service on April 29th. I received the "package" today and I couldn't believe what I found.
The game was shipped in a typical USPS manilla envelope, a larger sized one, with bubble wrap on the inside. When I received the envelope from my building's security guard it literally looked like it had been run over by a truck twenty times. The package was ripped apart in two places, and there was nothing inside. My Korean is pretty poor, and the security guard speaks zero English, but right away when he gave it to me I showed him the package with a big WTF face. He just told me he didn't know, and I believe him. He's just giving me what the delivery man gave him.
At this point I didn't really know what to do, so I decided to call the Korean Tourist info line (1330). The lady was very helpful and actually talked to security guard for me, which is how I found it the package was delivered via Korean Post. The Korean Post doesn't have an English number, so she recommended I just take my destroyed envelope to the nearest post office and talk to them. I followed her instructions, and even called her back to use as a translator. The people at the post office didn't know what to make of my package (I wish I would have taken a picture to post on this thread so everyone could see how actually absurd it looked). The post office decided to hold the tattered package in order to investigate its shipping history or whatever. They said they would get back to me tomorrow or Thursday.
One of the main things that struck me as odd about this situation is the complete lack of any Korean customs markings on the package. No stamp, no tape, no note, nothing whatsoever. It also seemed odd that this package would even be delivered in it's state. Wouldn't a postal worker, either US or Korean, have noticed this destroyed and empty package somewhere along the way? If someone did steal the game, why would they allow the package, in such a tattered condition, to
be delivered?
I have never had any problems with post in my entire life, which why I'm making this thread. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Does anyone have any advice for what I should do. The game is only worth 60$ so it's not the end of the world, but it's still annoying.
Thanks in advance for any advice or similar stories you can help me out with. |

That's the risk shipping anything overseas, not talking about the Korean Post specifically but my parents have mailed me things from the US on many occasions that never arrived. That's why I never recommend mailing anything of great value. Lot's of shady people out there. |

I had a few things stolen from the box shipped to me. I could not do anything about it because the sender did not include a detailed list of things being sent.
A common sense tells me that the postal workers should be able to open packages only in your presence, but I don't know what the actual law says. Anybody knows if they are allowed to open them? |

Customs can pretty much open any package they want.
Did your sister insure the package? It's possible the damage occurred before it got here.
She'll have to start the claim since she sent it from there.
customs will usually tape it, and that like. I have seen a package that has been basically destroyed before.
many years ago in Canada I had a small package sent across and when it arrived to me in a bag, with a note along the lines of "sorry it got caught in the door" |
