We're on #4 Huggies Gold at the moment. The wife got a good deal online for a large box of them (yes, they are real Huggies).

Anyone else noticed a drop in quality lately? A lot poorer quality elastic around the legs, and different tabs (although the tabs work fine). Our toddler has pee'd through them a lot recently.

My wife remarked that she didn't notice that there were different versions of Huggies. Apparently, the "gold" version we have is not that impressive.

We've been (only) using the Japanese Goon or Merries, after a month or so on the Wet-n-dry(??) Huggies (the straight-up US ones, in the aqua/green box). Never used the 'golds'... Really much better quality, even though they are more expensive-- no rashes, leaks, or other problems we had with the Huggies... Consider the change, it's worth it.

Mammypoke or something are also great.
Japanese (Mickey mouse logo on packet), but they are only in pantie style. Great for dry nights or traveling.

Huggies "Magic Panty" is the best, especially for toddler boys because you can pull them on him really fast while he's standing up (or in the process of running away- once they learn to stand a lot of boys hate to stop moving long enough for a change).

We got Gold once and yeah, they seemed too thin/not absorbent.

Someday I will tell my kid that as a young lad he wore a product named Magic Panty.

Be sure to get some photos of him proudly holding the box and pumping his fist in the air with infantile triumph.
