Anyone know where I can get the best deal for traveling to Burma? I'm looking at going for about 9/10 days in July.

yeah Air Asia out of Bangkok is your best deal though you will have to overnight it in Bangkok if you're coming in from Seoul as their one flight is at 7am.

you might be better off going via kl on Air Asia though the flight down to kl is a red-eye not sure about the costs Bangkok-Yangon was around $100 r/t

i'm going the end of next month for 3 weeks, 3rd time i've been there its so neat. I'm taking Thai 780k with a 3 week layover in BKK, easy connection with the morning flights.

EDIT: tehee Air Asia DOES NOT fly nonstop from Seoul to Bangkok they are now offering some connecting flights instead of their old point-to-point policy

Also if you decide to fly Air Asia to KL you will have a 12 hour layover in KL as their flight to Yangon is at 6P

Cheers for that. Anywhere or anything you'd recommend seeing/doing?

A ton of places, too many for here.

1) Schwedagon Pagoda in Yangon a bunch of other sites there, Sule Paya is also good
2) Inle Lake, supposedly good trekking around there
3) Temples of Bagan on par with Angkor with 1/100th the crowd

Mandalay is either love/hate, the city itself is so-so, its what outside the city that should draw you

pm me for other details.

guy at ocean pearl said train to mandalay is awful, then again he might have a cut in a travel agency. i did hear there is a new highway from yangon to mandalay that cuts the bus time to 9-10 hours or so. might try that this summer.

the air asia flight from kl to yangon is now very inconvenient leaving at 6p and the return is at 8p, especially if you are coming from here, its a little better from bangkok if you take the early nonstop to bangkok on thai you can make the connection.

stayed at motherland 2 a couple of years ago, its ok a bit far out from sule and it books out, ocean pearl is a better choice if you ask me

i found the trains in burma to be extremely scenic especially with the old tall bridges........speed and comfort were about on par with india......
