I have a major sashimi craving at the moment. Of course, many restaurants in Seoul serve sushi, but it tends to be Korean style - too much rice, not enough fish.

Where's the best place in Seoul for some splendid, legitimate sashimi?

Hyatt Regency all the way in Jeju has wonderful sashimi... but the lettuce isn't very good. Plus, it's a bit far...

If you know some Korean friends, go to Oido (Wolgot) for some good fish. Somebody needs to drive, but it is good. It's not cheap though, but you will get some good fresh fish and side-dishes. It's probably my favorite place to go for a yummy dinner here.

Don't know the name of it but I'm a sashimi freak too and the best place I've EVER been (better than Tsukiji fish market, honestly) is this one in Sinchon in the sprawl of clubs and bars opposite yonsei university.

20,000 for all you can eat tuna belly (all different cuts) big eye, swordfish, salmon etc... You also get free kaerang jjib, HUGE bowl of mussles and side dishes, guy even gives you ground cartelege from the big eye's eye socket and mixes it in a shot of soju for ya!

Absolutely fresh and delicious and at 20,000 can't be bloody beat. He's Korean but worked and owned a resaurant in Japan for many years... My friends wife who has lived in Japan for 15 years said it's one of the best she's ever been to also.

DO NOT GO to a Korean sashimi 'Hwae' place. Terrible, chewy, bony fish with no flavor. It should be damned well illegal.

Sashimi isn't that good in Korea. You have to have soju with it to make it worth it. I suggest going to any coastal area, those are your best chances for fresh fish. I tried some in Yeongduk, and it was a 7.5. In the city and nearby, about a 5 or 6. Japan definitely has 8 or 9's at most local markets.

Yes, a 9 with the "handicap" of someone who lived in Japan.

There is a chain called Nanji with locations in Sinchon and Myeongdong. For 10,000 won, you can eat a buffet sushi lunch and the price goes up to 13,000 won for dinner.

The sushi is good though not spectacular, but at the price, you cannot beat it.

As mentioned already.

Korean hwae restaurants should be banned.

I also love sashimi..

I eat it twice a week at restaurants...

behind my apartment (Bang-I dong) at Mongchontoseong station - there are many, many Sashimi restaurants..

prices as low as 17,000won (all you can eat)

(They just keep bringing it to your table - all fish - NO RICE - until you leave + the side dishes and soup...

p.m. me if you want more details - I am always in the mood to eat Sashimi...

Do any of these places actually have the fish they are preparing swimming around in a tank on the premises?

It's always ironic when a mainlander waxes expert on fresh seafood.

Oh, you think I've always been a mainlander? Well I was just wondering because that's how they did it in Hawaii at the Pearl City Tavern, aka Monkey Bar.
