|
|
Hi, does anyone know where to get electrolysis done? There seem to be tons of places with laser hair removal, but I have dark skin so I am not a very good candidate. I am willing to go anywhere in or around Seoul, and I would prefer at least a decent level of English.
If anyone can help I'd be ecstatic! |

I think you might have your terms mixed up. Being dark skinned makes you a poor candidate for laser hair removal. That's where they smear a gel on you and then drag the laser that "pops" and burns the root of the hair. This doesn't work so well on dark skinned people and light skinned people with light colored hair. Ideal candidates are medium or light skinned people with medium or dark colored hair.
I'm pretty sure electrolysis is the old school method that is cheaper, yet a bit more painful and can take much longer. Elec is when the doctor will isolate a single hair and take a tiny needle and stab the root, sending an electric shock directly on the root. This can be done on any color hair and any color skin. But it can take quite a while to do even small areas like women's armpits or men that have hair on the shaft of their wang. Large areas like the back or legs can literally take hours and hours. The doctor can numb you up pretty good, but unlike laser removal, there will be some marks or scaring temporarily after the procedure. It basically looks like razor burn and can last for a week or two after.
The upside to elec is once you shock that root, it's dead. No coming back. Where as with the laser, it's not destroying the root, just burning it up. It can take 3-5 visits per area for the laser to completely eliminate the hair. This can add up. My friend looked at getting his arms done and the doc said it could take up to 5 times, final total cost being somewhere around 1.5MKW.
Anyways, you can check this guy out. I've been using him as my dermatologist for years. Speaks English really well, has loads of waegookin clients, friendly place even if it is a bit far and out of the way.

The OP didn't get the terms mixed up. You just reiterated what he/she said: that the OP can't get laser, and wants to get electrolysis because of dark skin being an issue.
As for laser, if you can wait until you're back west, they've gotten to the point where lasers can work with darker skin. Here, I wouldn't risk it.
Also, electrolysis can leave permanent scars and isn't nearly as effective. My friend went for sessions for years and it kept growing back. I did a series of laser treatments and have had great success. |

*bump*
Any news... anyone? We won't be back west for any significant time that would allow proper treatment. At least not any time soon. |
