Playing poker and drinking 40 oz'ers on the subway floor. Just go home. |

Yup. Looking like complete idiots sitting on the dirty subway train floor with open containers blocking the aisle all while carrying out a poker tournament is pretty darn good! |

When Asia finally rises and cities like Seoul become giant multicultural melting pots, you are gonna look fondly at the days when the worst waygook offences were sitting on a subway car floor playing cards. |

I'm as much of a Korean apologist as I am a foreigner apologist. Some of us choose not to be so judgmental.
But hey, that's pretty effing bad. |

I don't think anybody's going to try to defend their actions. But hey, at least they weren't picking flowers. |

Here's the thing: [Mod Edit]. Why do we need to focus on whether they're Korean or not? Does one ajossi taking upskirt photos speak for all Koreans? No. Does a group of fools playing poker on the train speak for all foreigners? No. The whole, "OMG, look what they did" thing is rather tired. |

I agree with northway. Yeah, these particular foreigners were being pretty tactless and inappropriate (though I'm not entirely sure they were doing something explicitly illegal). But just like the up-skirters and gropers, these individuals shouldn't be considered representative of any nationality.
I also agree with the sentiment that what they did was nowhere near as bad as groping. Tactlessly causing a minor inconvenience on the subway != violating a person's body.
Furthermore, I take some issue with the author of the article (and nate.com for calling it news). While the author avoids any flat-out racist language, he seems to essentially make the same point as Anti-Asian UCLA Girl: these foreigners are in our country and need to learn our etiquette/manners. Just as in the case of UCLA Girl picking on a visible minority while ignoring untold masses of bubbly white (and black/latina/etc) sorority girls in the country who also lack library manners, the author is conveniently ignoring etiquette violations that are common among natives (and also legal violations, such as those vendors and their carts selling junk on the subways). In this way, the article is not about etiquette as much as it is about "foreigners are rude and behave badly in Korea." |

I wonder if the ajosshi watching them is disgusted or intrigued. Now keep in mind this could be a difficult answer as ajosshis do like to get their gamble and their drink on and enjoy the company of cute ladies.
It's like the soju hat. 3 ajosshis are thinking "obnoxious foreigner" the fourth is thinking "hey, that's a pretty good idea."
But yeah the Spring Break mentality that is taking over the under 30 crowd has got to go. With freedom and adulthood comes responsibility. If you want to ignore society's norms and behave like a child fine. But don't claim to be an adult and don't whine when society rejects you and takes steps to quash you. |

In terms of the inconvenience, I deal with uni kids sitting on the subway floor with their laptops every single morning at rush hour, and I'm pretty sure no one is posting that on Nate. Should I take pictures and start a thread about that? |
