I got an offer for a 2nd job in the evening at a hagwon teaching adults. Just want to see if anyone under GEPIK has had luck with a 2nd job while teaching at a public school. |

It is illegal under the public service act for ALL public employees (including K-teachers and NETS) to take a 2nd job that is NOT a government position.
The penalty would be termination (if anyone makes a fuss).

Is that true? Many GEPIK teachers are under the impression that the Principal can sign a document that allows foreign teachers to take second jobs. Dain Bae even talked about it at my orientation and said it was okay. |

Legally under current E2 visa rules if you get an okay from your visa sponsor you can work simultaneously elsewhere but you have to let Immigration know. Immigration will ask for documenation from your visa sponsor saying its okay. It may be GEPIKs policy not to grant this but legally they can if they want to. Some folks do camps elsewhere while they are on vacation and since its on their vacation, some employers will grant permission. This is often the case with uni jobs where you typically have a long summer vacation. |

2nd jobs at another PS, PS afterschool, teachers training center, PS or provincial camps = yes. They are also government positions and no potential for a conflict of interest.
2nd job at a private company, institute, etc. = no or every K-English teacher would be doing privates (and insisting that their students attend or fail (as has happened in the past) hence the article under the public service act.

That is logical, but too often immigration policy in Korea is illogical.

Not an immigration issue. Public service issue. Not an issue if you are at a hagwan or (private) university and have permission from your sponsor.
