Hi,

I've been teaching at a new school for a few months and have noticed my bills are pretty high. I asked for a breakdown today and my boss told me my gas and electricity this month was 60,000, but then added an extra 120,000 she said was for "utilites". Her clumsy English couldn't quite explain what that actually was, but I assumed it was a bill the building charges for cleaning the halls and general repairs.

Does anyone else pay this kind of cost? Do you think it is my responsibility to pay it? For what it is worth, the apartment is pretty good. I just don't like the feeling of being shafted.

Yep. It's the maintenance charge. Every resident pays it.......I pay 250,000 maintenance fee!!

It's supposed to be the total cost of cleaning, general maintenance and security, divided by how many apartments are in your complex.......but I think the building owners/managers usually cheat a bit.....or a lot if they can get away with it.

Thanks for the reply eamo.

My last job didn't charge me that for some reason. Guess I was just lucky.
