Hey guys. So I'm really hoping someone can help me out here. I am going to be pulling a runner in the next few weeks for reasons I'd rather not get into. However, just yesterday I lost my wallet and hence my ARC card. My boss is telling me he can't get me a new ARC card for another month. Well I'm leaving in 3 weeks so I won't even be around to get that new card. From what I've read on here everyone says that you need to hand in your ARC card when you do a runner. My question is if I can still leave the country without handing in my ARC card? I don't care about getting another visa in the future or anything like that. Will it seem suspicious to immigration that I can't show them my ARC card? I am really worried about encountering a problem on my way out. Please help!!!

According to what I've heard, you will have to pay a fine of 100,000 when you go through immigration at the airport. You won't be prevented from leaving the country.

OP, you could try calling immi and tell them that you lost your card and you are expecting to need to travel soon. Ask them what they advise. I think if you plan ahead, you will be okay. Ask your employer if they have a photocopy of your card, and get a copy of that as well-tell him you want to have a copy in your wallet in case you need it.

When I completed my 1st contract, I left with someone who did not have his card because his CT thought she would have to hand it in at immi. He went to immi at the airpot and was able to get the issue dealt with, though it added stress and time. There were no fees, but this was 3 years ago.

Go to your local kimmi office and get a new ARC. 10k won. They are usually done while you wait.

Failure to replace it will result in delays getting through passport control and a fine of 100k at departure time. Refusing to pay will result in missing your flight (they will hold you in detention until it is paid).

Ok so sounds like I need to get a new ARC card ASAP.

Why is my boss telling me it will take 3-4 weeks? Some of you said you just went there and it took a few minutes? Can I really just got to immigration and get a new card on the spot? I tried calling the immi office today but the number for my branch was not working. Does anyone know the easiest way to contact an English speaking immigration office?

Thank you so much for all of your help!

Rule Number 1: Never never never ask a Korean for help or assistance ESPECIALLY your boss. Standard answers are, oh its soo difficult, it can't be done, it will take so long.
Go to immi, get a new card, takes a few minutes.

There should be someone at immi who speaks basic English - assuming the worst, have someone write down on a bit of paper 'please can you issue me with a new ARC, I lost my other one.

make sure you have cash - they won't accept a card. They might ask for photos (I think that is only if you want to change your photo on your card though).....

Walk in the door at K-immi.
Take a number for the que.
Fill in an application form. Tick the box at the top for replacement ARC. Fill in the form.
Get a 10k won stamp.
Go to the counter when your number is called.
show your passport, give them the stamp and application.
They will tell you to wait.
They will print off a new ARC.
They will give you your new ARC
You will go home.

If you don't want to wait, make an appointment on the immigration website.

My favorite line is: "oh, so-rry, not possible. It's not possible."

Translation: I don't know how to do it or I am to effing lazy to find out how to do it.

Those standard answers (as you call them) are only for people they don't like and aren't willing to go out of their way for.

Friends on the other hand don't mind helping out. I've had more than one Korean friend inconvience themselves for me.

Then again that's pretty much how it works everywhere else as well.

OP a quick visit to Immigration will sort you out.

You are either kidding, egging UM on or well, the other option is too sad to contemplate. Laughing

However, being the swell guy that I am, I can send you the contact information of a few of my Korean friends who behave just like UM said. I am sure they will be happy to help you and show you it is indeed possible to befriend Koreans and that they will help you out when you ask.

Maybe one such friend would be enough to start with, I would not want you to overdose on kindness. Laughing Wink

OP: as was said, head to kimmi and for 10 000 Won you get a new ARC.
