|
|
I just got a 30 day tourist visa for China, and was wondering if anyone knows if it's possible to extend that visa once I'm in China.
Because of my ARC card, the travel agency told me that 30 days was the maximum length visa I can get in Korea, but it maybe possibel to extend it once in China.
Does anyone have any information about this?
Thanks for your help. |

Yes, you can extend it twice if you want. You need to show proof of funds though, at least 3000 USD (or 20,000 RMB). Also bear in mind you will be without passport for about a week (5 working days?) while getting the extension. |

Thank you for the information.
Do you know how much the fee for the extension costs, and also if it's possible for US citizens? |

I paid 140 or 160 yuan for the new visa, don't recall exactly. I'm Canadian. Americans pay a lot more for China visas for some reason, so they may charge you more to get a new one too. I paid 50 bucks for one in Canada. For Americans I hear it's over $100.
[note: Of course it's possible for Americans.]
You will need to find a Public Security Office or Bureau in whatever city, and go to the Exit and Entry Control (I believe that's what they call it anyway) section. An officer will want a photo and a short, handwritten is OK, dated and signed, letter saying why you wish to stay in China longer, as well as proof of the cash. I actually borrowed 20,000 yuan for like an hour, just to show the officer. There's some form you need to fill out as well. Bring a pen.
Also, when you arrive in China you are supposed to visit a police station within 24 hours, to register where you are staying. The Security people will want a form showing this as well. They can be strict but also not too fussy if all seems cool and legit, I guess.
Pretty sure you can find all the info you need on a google search, or maybe post in the China forums. |
