Hi,
I have an external hard drive that has failed- its beeping and making a clicking noise- from the googling around Ive done this is not good!! I HAVE to get the daa back off the drive however- lifetime of photos on the drive not backed up anywhere else!!
So, does anyone know of a data recovery service in Korea?! There's bound to be one in Seoul somewhere- I'm not based in Seoul but would travel no problem! Please help me out- I would appreciate it hugely! I'm at a total loss here- I dont know what I'll do if I can get my data back!! Thanks in advance!!

if you read up on the clicking then you know it's toast. You;ll pay upwards of $2000US to get your photos back. Are they really that precious? |

first, you will probably get more help in the technology forum.
second, all is not lost. put it in the freezer for 4 hours then try it again. if it works, back up everything quickly.
if not, perhaps a quick tap on both sides will reset the internal arm.
if not, try the technology forum |

What others have said is correct. First, try what you can to get it to work. If that fails, be prepared to spend well over 1 million won, and much more likely over 2 million won to get your data back. Ask a Korean friend to help you search for a data recovery service in Korea. I'm sure they exist, but they will cost a lot.
Finally, please let this be a lesson. Always back up anything important. If you must keep things on an external drive, please look into getting a mirrored RAID drive so you have a built-in backup of your data, and something like this can never happen again. |

Not if you've got a dead hard drive full of data. The cost of blank DVDs just to copy that much data would approach 50,000 won. The equipment used to recover data from a hard drive is extremely expensive, and must be used in an extremely clean environment (think microchip production facility level of clean), so there is no way it is 50,000 won. The cheapest you can get it done in the US is about $700, and you pay that whether or not they can collect data or not.
But, if you really have found a place that will do it for 50,000 won, why do you provide the OP with contact information. |

I paid around 200K to recover data from my old hard drive. I don't know the details offhand because I had some help but there was a place somewhere near Yeoksam Station. My hard drive was 400 GB and the max they would charge (if the thing had been FUBAR) would've been 400K. |

Hey all,
Thanks a million for all the respnses- much appreciated!
@Hallazgo...yes they are that precious- its every photo Ive ever taken in my life- from birthdays to holidays and everything in between- would kill me to lose them!
I have done a lot of googling around on the topic and it does sound like a data recovery specialist is my only option- the clicking noise is often referred to as the 'clicky noise of death' on technology forums which can't be good!!
All hopes not lost I have some options to explore before I have definitley lost everything- 9times out of 10 apparently data can be recovered! So, thanks again everyone for all your help!! fingers crossed!! |
