I got my tax forms for last year and handed them over to school. I was told that I will be getting a refund of 259,000 won directly to my bank account. The only thing is, my manager said that I can get this money two weeks after I leave the job. She gave my bank info over to the tax office. She said I will have to give her my debit card so she can withdraw this money and mail it to me..Have you guys ever heard of this? Do you think this is safe to do? |

Why on earth would I quit now? I am two months away from finishing my contract. I don't think you guys understand the situation. I don't have to agree, she is doing me a favor. Would she really jeopardize her job by taking a measley 259,000 won? I don't have to agree to this, I can hust close my bank account right before I leave, but she said the tax people deposit the amount two weeks after I leave the country to the bank account? I guess I can find out if it canbe done before when I go get the pension stuff figured out.. I was just wondering if anyone else wnet through this before.. |

I don't know what bank you use, but you could look into setting up a KEB account with an overseas remittance account. That way the money could be deposited into your account AND you would be able to withdraw or transfer it to your home account after you're done with Korea and back home. I've never had to CLOSE my bank account when I've left. In fact, this is exactly what I'm doing with my pension refund and tax refund right now, as my job is over in a week and I'll be in the states all summer. |

Thanks for your response.. I will look into setting up a KEB account. Do you know when they send back the tax return refund? Is it like the pension (two weeks after you leave the country)? |

KEB is the best banking option (as far as I know).
If you tell them to give you an international card, you can use it anywhere.
I sent mine back to my wife and she takes out each month. I don't know how much the fee is, but I am sure it beats other transfer routes. It is a heck of alot easier. |
