I am applying for a uni job, where one of the main roles will be teaching writing. I have no experience of teaching at this level, so I'm reaching out to all the current uni guys here for some advice on planning a curriculum. What do you do in your lessons? I want some ideas that will impress at the interview.

Thanking you.

Swales and Feak
Academic Writing for Graduate Students

is a great book. Great material and easy to adapt into individual lessons.

Think about writing as:
a) a process, and
b) a product
Focus on writing fluency (speed, free association of ideas, keeping a journal) as well as writing accuracy (formatting, sentence structure and spelling). Above all, I believe the key to successful writing is reading, reading, reading. A good curriculum will spend time on input (yes, even for a writing class), output, accuracy and fluency.

If you're at a middle to lower tier university in Seoul, or outside of it, try:

Ready to Write

Several versions and levels by Blanchard and Root:

There are a few versions with different publishers, but same author. Find them at Kyobo.

Having them write daries and short stories. I gave my students last year in middle school a topic and made them write about it. They also started their own news paper.

This is a great book, nothing flashy but solid content. Also it can be used at top universities.
