Any minecraft players here??

I'm going to start a Korea-based minecraft server so that we can play without all the lag of using US based servers.

As far as I know, there are no local servers, so I'm looking to start one and I'm keen to get a few people on board to help me set it up, fund it and run it.

I'm happy to do most of the legwork (I can set up the server, make accounts, etc) but I don't really want to do it if nobody's gonna play.

Anyone interested?

There are, but they use weird and/or confusing mods. I tried to get into one, but they had very complicated rules. The site was set-up in Korean, and I could never fully figure them out, even with a dictionary, google, and a reasonable understanding of lower intermediate Korean.

I did finally get on it, but it would frequently crash at random times, which seemed to be related to the client they were using, but they had several download links for different things and it was quite a chore to sort it all out.

that doesn't surprise me. i'm often confused by how technologically advanced korea is, but how backward they are with using technology ... it's 2012 and they're still only just discovering chrome and firefox!

korea's internet infrastructure is absurd and i refuse to deal with korean websites at all.

i was thinking about setting up my own minecraft server (with a whitelist). i've set up servers before and it's pretty easy to organise and run. there's no reason for a minecraft server to be complicated. bukkit mods and a whitelist (to prevent griefers and hackers) are all you need.

i do know, however, that a lot of koreans play minecraft illegally (illegal copies), so the "hacks" and configuration issues probably have something to do with allowing hacked software onto servers.

i'll look into how to start a server and see if it's do-able. but i'll probably just start a server in australia (and play from korea) with a few friends.

The thing was the koreans didn't seem to be crashing like I was. Obviously I needed to do something more, but couldn't quite figure it out. It seemed to be legit, they were using bukkit I think, but also some other stuff.
I'll see if I can find the site
Apparently I still have the bookmark
http://unjiserver.com/
(but it's not responding, it may have shut down)
I found it by using naver to search for minecraft, I think I got it from a naver cafe or something.

Hey! I played a lot of Minecraft about year ago, and I just started playing again in the past few days. I'd love to find some folks to play with on a Korean server. Are you still interested in this? PM me with details, please.

of course. i've been talking to korean friends and they know a little about korean servers.

if the whole "korean server" thing doesn't work out, i might set up my own server at home ... depending on how motivated i feel over the next few weeks.

Let me know as soon as you figure anything out. I'm still really into Minecraft, and the new update is out with some cool stuff, but I just can't play single player anymore. Who cares if you make something awesome when no one is around to see it but you and the creepers?
