Maybe this is old news, I'm not sure...
But my school recently applied for an ARC for a new teacher, and we were told (by Jongno immigration I think) that they are now making the cards at the National Mint (rather than at the immi office or wherever they made them previously). They say it's to reduce the number of fake cards floating around.
As a result, processing time is now up to 45 business days. (!)
Seems highly inconvenient for new teachers who would benefit from having their ID number sooner rather than later.
Maybe I'm the last one to find out about this, but in case it is a new policy...I thought I'd pass along word... |

Chungnam office recently told me 3 weeks. I hope it hasn't already moved up! |

Wow. Guess I'm not going to replace my very messed up card. |

So that's why I had to wait about 5 weeks for my ARC and the card looks quite a bit different. It definitely looks like it would be harder to forge. There are a few images on the card that are difficult to see clearly unless you view the card at a certain angle. You can actually see a small, faint image of yourself beneath the main photo if you turn the card at a certain angle. |
