Seoul Ends Failed 'New Towns' Project
Quote: |
The scheme was first introduced in 2002 by former Seoul mayor Lee Myung-bak, a homebuilder before becoming mayor and now the countrys president. The project built on a previous new town effort begun in the late 1980s to alleviate crowding in the city by building five new towns about 20 kilometers outside the city. Lees effort was intended to create better living conditions for low-income residents, starting with three pilot projects in slum areas. With financial success, these projects inspired dozens of developers to take on similar redevelopment efforts throughout the city.
The new towns seemed like a good idea during the real estate boom, with locals in old towns clamoring for the redevelopment projects that would grandly increase their property values. But now, most residents in areas that had been slated for redevelopment as new towns would prefer to stick with the old as the financial benefits of redevelopment have disappeared.
Indeed, 85 percent of the proposed new town developments havent broken ground. |

Your ID name is offensive to Christians. Would you mind changing it please? |

I asked him politely.
We don't see an epidemic of people choosing ID handles that ridicule islam or bhuddhism. So I don't think its OK to do to Christianity.
Seriously, its offensive. |

Seeing as Jesus (or Isa) is a very important prophet in the Islamic faith I don't see how you can make the assertion that Muslims wouldn't be similarly offended as Christians would.
Also my name is not actually meant to mock Christianity, it merely references on of my favourite Homer quotes from one of my favourite Simpsons episodes.
The jeebus part references the episode of the Simpsons in which Homer becomes a missionary on a tropical island to avoid the PBS goons (after failing to make a promised donation).
Having said that, I will be changing my ID (also at a mods request too) once I've selected an available, inoffensive moniker which I find appropriate. Though it must be said this is the first time I've ever had anyone consider it offensive (it's also the primary part of my email address). |

It shouldn't be difficult to imagine that christians resent having their God's name changed to some cartoon offshoot as a form of ridicule.
I understand that many people do not have faith, which is entirely their own business.
But why do they have to go around publicising this disbelief in a way that offends people who do?
There's about 4 or 5 people with blasphemous ID names on here. Names that are instantly hurtful to millions of people, names that mock the deeply held faith of millions.

To Christians, the name of our Lord must not be taken lightly or abused. The fact that such abuse has become common and widespread..and increasingly encouraged in western popular culture.. doesn't make it acceptable.
You don't hear people abusing bhuddhism or islam in their day-to-day spoken language. Instead.. the vast majority of swear or cuss words in use..are designed to insult christianity.
Its equivalent of someone walking around using your own fathers, sisters or mothers name as a swearword or term of abuse. Its like being kicked in the gut to hear and see it all the time. Its personal.
