Hey I think my school may go under in the next couple of months. Our Korean manager/teacher quit and I'm just wondering if it does go belly up what are my chances of getting another job in Korea, currently I've only done 5/12 months and I really like it here so definitely don't want to go home. |

I'm not an expert but from what I've seen it's pretty easy to transfer to a new school if you already have an E-2 visa and your docs ready... check around for threads on transferring your visa. |

At this point, you should be more concerned about getting all of your pay at the end. Your boss could close up shop and leave you with half a check, or worse. It's VERY common with failed hagwons, and there isn't a lot you can do about it.
If I were you, I'd have a very kind, frank, but very courteous discussion with your boss and try to see if they want to let you go early. They might see it as a blessing. They would probably work a deal with you to let you out of your contract (no bonus) so you can go find work. |

If your school/hagwan goes under (and files the necessary documentation) then Kimmi has no problem allowing a transfer even if you haven't completed 6 months of your contract yet.
After the 6 month mark you only need a LOR from the employer to enable the transfer.
I hope you get all your pay (stay on them). If they close the doors you may loose anything left and have a fight through labor and the courts to try to get anything back.

Will the OP be able to get a new job w/o doing all of the paperwork (CBC and apostilled diploma)? If he needs new paperwork then he should start this tomorrow. And hopefully he'll still get paid. |

At less than 6 months in his visa would have been under the new rules and he shouldn't need new documentation for as long as he remains on his current ARC.

Well use the advice "hope for best - prepare for the worst". Start getting your paperwork ready - if you are lucky you do not need it but if things go haywire you are a ready! Next do you have an exit plan - where are you going to stay, put your stuff, how about just leave the country for one day do you know what to do? Do you understand what you may loose like plane ticket or pension or even severance or the apartment.
Look for a job. Put out feelers to some recruiters or friends. If things go bad you can find yourself just walking into a new job the next day.
Good Luck! |
