Ok, here's the deal. After working at a Hagwon from hell, I have left, without notice though. I did, however, pay back the cost of the plane ticket and the medical (I have 2 pay statements reflecting this).

My question is, aside from canceling my visa, is it possible for the owners to physically keep me in the country through some sort of passport nonsense?

No. They might be able to do something to keep you from coming back to Korea for some amount of time, but even then, most hakwons simply move on to scambling to find a replacement when someone leaves.
