So I am really starting to seriously consider coming back to Korea. In order to keep this post short and simple I won't really get into pros/cons. What I need to know is if my passport poses any problems... In 2009-2010 I taught first in Suwon, was "fired" from my first school (lease was up on my apartment and there was a serious mold issue), and I left early from my second school due to a family emergency. Essentially I was in Korea for exactly 1 year with half of it spent at each school. Which brings me to some questions...
1. If I were to find a position and send my passport in for my visa, could my visa possibly be revoked because my passport looks suspicious? It has my old e-2 visa on it, a permit for a change of employment, and a permit for additional employment. This employment change was completely lawful and I was even able to collect my pension before I left... I am confident that if my old school was contacted they would give me a positive reference.
2. Should I even bother to put that I have taught in Korea on my resume? I ask this mainly because I've heard people bring up before the fact that being a "fresh" teacher can actually give you an advantage to being hired (we all know why), not to mention that my two places of employment might look sketchy... The thing is, I don't want to lie either...
Thanks! |

You do realize that Immigration has records of your visas, don't you? And if you don't want to lie, then don't lie, not even by omission. |

You will not have problems with immigration. They do not "look down on" people who did not finish a contract, that is not their business. They only care about visa or criminal violations. You should not lie on your resume since immigration sees it
Your only problem will be with an employer since your resume you give them must inlcude your previous Korea experience....you will need a good story to explain the two short stints.
It is possible. Many people have done it. I suggest you find a recruiter that is willing to give you some time to explain it or go straight to schools. |
