|

Someone told me it doesn't work in Korea
They did say that there's probably a way around it if you mess with the proxy settings or something....? I'm not great with computers so I had no idea what they were talking about.
Any info on this? |

| it won't work out of region. So no, it won't work here without a proxy, problem is the internet is kind of not in great shape after the earthquake, so even if you got it working, I wouldn't want to use it. Trying to download and watch a movie like that would take a long time. |

A proxy or VPN are basically things you can set up to make it look like your computer is somewhere it's not. Netflix and other services which are region restricted, do so based on your IP address. It checks where you're located, not in the service region, no service.
a proxy or VPN can make you appear to be in a region you're not. Basically your computer sends everything to another computer first, then it goes out to the general internet. As far as the general internet is concerned you're where that second computer is. People use these to get around region restrictions on sites like Hulu or netflix, or sometimes shopping sites as well (Steam often has America specific sales or releases) |

Thank you for the info! So you think even if the proxy was tweaked the internet would still be too slow to be worthwhile? |

| I have been using Netflix here for about a year and a half with no issues, including the recent natural disasters. You will have to use a VPN/Proxy to access streaming movies though. |

a proxy/vpn will do nothing to help you get across the clogged underseas cables. While it does seem that youtube has been throttling overseas users so a VPN has helped speed that up in the past for some people, if everything is clogged it won't generally help. |

I use Netflix streaming every day...I downloaded Hotspot Shield (free and I'm totally computer illiterate, btw, and I still did it!). I turn the shield on, log in to Netflix. It will start buffering. Once it gets to 9% (it will slow down or kind of stop loading at 9%), turn OFF the shield. It will then download at regular Korean internet speeds (there's a glitch in the system-Netflix doesn't recognize when you turn the shield off). It takes me less than 2 minutes to turn the shield on, load the movie and then be watching it. I'm not really good at explaining things, sorry, but I do use it every day. PM me if you have questions...hope it works out for you!

| I used Astrill VPN, and most days, it does improve my Netflix speeds a great deal, so long as I port forward. This seems to get me around the restrictions that SK has (squelching internet speeds to cheaper-paying customers). PM me if you want a free trial of Astrill. You can purchase in blocks of months. |
