I came to Korea a few years ago. I use to stay in this area when I visited Seoul as it was quick and convenient. Then about 3 years ago, every motel I went to in that area and a couple of other areas seemed to start refusing service. They all claimed to be full and not available. I think the racists just didn't want white guys staying there anymore. But the country seems to have become more open as of late. So, my question is: have any of you been able to get into motels in this area and stay overnight. Would be a little more convenient than having to book hotels online for a visit to Seoul. At the time, I found that the minimum prices for a decent clean room would run about 60 to 80 thousand won per night. Anything less than that price in Seoul seems to be dirty and sleazy rooms, which I don't want.
Have any of you been able to get these type of rooms in Seoul? Are they still trying to keep you out? Please let me know. I'd like to visit Seoul more often and on a whim if this option were open. I find I just don't go up as much because I actually have to plan a trip. It'd be nice to know those shades of xenephobia are gone.
I always try to get in there around 7, 8, or 9 to get a clean room. |

I get time at the Hotel Cello no problem.
Were you staying by yourself? What time of the week was it? |

Yeah, was by myself. I went on a Friday or Saturday night as I work through the week. I tried a few times though 2008 and kept getting denied. Couldn't get an excuse that made sense. I went in early enough that the rooms weren't booked. Never has problems prior to this. Had a Chinese Canadian friend who went to this area and never had problems. Just wondering if it's still that way. I liked staying there because it was convenient. I could get discounted hotels for a similar price but always had to book a week in advance. Never had any problems in other cities in Korea with motels.
Tried again once or twice in 2009. Haven't gone back since. I stayed at the PAV and some others around there. Can't remember all the names. |
