Hi everyone, I have another question that might be seemingly basic but I'm not sure. I received a job offer through a recruiter for a position at a Poly school. I'm tempted to accept it because the job does meet many of the criteria I was hoping for in a position and the director seems great. However, the field stating the actual dates for the contract was left blank. Additionally, the contract does not include an exact stipulation about single housing stating that: "Housing selected by Employer may include, but might not be limited to, a leased house, studio, or an apartment that will be shared by two or three other Employees." My recruiter is pressuring me to sign and return the contract asap, but I'm worried that I won't be assured single housing and the year could turn into 6 months. Any opinions on this would be much appreciated! |

For a faster and more detailed reply, I would suggest posting your contract for a review in the "Contract Review" sticky. There are veterans there who will answer these questions as well as point out if there is anything glaringly wrong with the contract. Good luck! |

Having the dates blank is not a big deal initially, but since they want you to sign it then they should add the dates. Before you do that, decide if you really want shared housing. If no, don't sign it until they add dates and change the living conditions. If the room is leased out or sublet, I don't see that as a big problem. The main concern here is having roommates if you want that. |

I know I know ...but my options seem to be limited. And trust me, I've been applying through multiple recruiters as well as to positions that pop up on Craigslist and WorknPlay. However, as a newbie with no past teaching experience, it's kind of difficult for me to find something in Seoul.
Anywayyy, thanks for all the advice! I'll definitely post the next contract (if there is a next contract!) in the sticky. As for this one, I think it might be best for me to wait. I have all my documents...hopefully it's just a matter of a bit more research and time |

Ask them about your housing btu chances are they're planning on putting you in a single. Your contract will be a year, not 6 months. There's no incentive for them to keep you on less than a year. They're investing a lot to get you there. You could ask them about it though. Ask them for the exact dates they put on it when they send it in.
Also, in my opinion, any complaints about Poly are so trivial compared to what I've heard about other schools. You're going to get paid on time, taxed the right amount, have insurance and a pension. That's more than some hagwon teachers get. You might have to work hard, but it's better than getting screwed out of money or not having insurance.
Another tip: From what I've heard, Poly scans these boards. I'd be cautious about posting your contract. |
