Hi there
I am moving to Cheongju in late and even though I have done some research on the city, I would like to find out more about it.
Could any of you please give me some information on expat hangouts, gyms, and any other curious details that I should know about the city.
Thanks |

There are a bazillion gyms in Cheongju that feature standard treadmills and stationary bikes. What neighborhood are you moving to?
The main bar to meet other expats is called MJ's. Just ask any cab driver to drop you off at Chungdae Lotteria and then you will find MJ's. Sometime before or after drinking at MJ's, a group of expats will drink at Buzz and Pearl Jam. All three places are in Chungdae and relatively easy to get to.
Habokde is the neighborhood to party in if you want a more wild night life. You will have to recruit some expats to go with you though, as it's mostly a Korean place. Or you could be brave and go by yourself, but its much more fun to go with a group of people.
Many, many foreigners go to a health club that is on the 7th story of a building that is simply labled 24 Sauna. However, the Sauna is written in Hanguel. But you can see it from Chungdae.
There is a Korean Language class for pre-beginner, beginner, level 3, level 4, and advanced at the YMCA in Shinae.
If you like to jog or ride a bike, there is a 148KM bike path that runs right next to a looooong river. The scenery is gorgeous and you can access it easily near the Home Plus in Shinae.
You can go hiking at Sangdangsasang Fortress. It's best to take a cab there and then grab the bus back down to Shinae. There really isn't ever a shortage of things to do in Cheongju. |
