|
|
So the recruiter I have has got a job for me. Howevedr he has told me the school will need to send me to Japan for a visa run.
This, to me sounds a bit sketchy. Can anyone explain to me why this visa run is needed. What are the benefits to the school?
And should I be dealing with a school with this practice?

First time working in Korea? If so, you'll need to interview back home. If not, you'll need documents. The big one being a CBC, criminal background check.
What is your exact situation and plans to get all this done? The first step should NOT be to fly to Japan and then sort it out. It's rather expensive over there
It would seem like China might be cheaper even though you have to apply for a tourist visa. The living expenses are very low here. It only costs like 30,000 won for a hotel (Beijing rates, probably less in Qingdao or Dalian). |

thanks.
I have been to Korea before and did go for an interview at the embassy.
All my recruiter has said is : "The school will send you to japan for visa run"
I don't know whether this before I arrive in Korea or after.
Seems rather dodgy to this young sir |

It's not dodgy.
I've done it twice myself -- to Osaka. Many people also go to Fukuoka. It's pretty painless. I believe the whole process can be read about in the travel forum
Just tell your new boss that the visa run will include hotel and food.
cheers

It's completely fine. I've done two visa runs to Osaka myself. Also, a free trip to Japan. Great. ^ ^
But... make sure that you get your visa before you teach a class. It sounds like they may want you to start immediately, and then send you to Japan after a few weeks. This isn't ok. If I'm wrong about this, could someone please chip in? |

You want to go to Japan? They had a big earthquake there and just another one a few weeks ago.
Good luck man.

As long as they're paying for your flight to Korea and then your flight to Japan, it's not sketchy.
If you're getting reimbursed, don't do it |
