Hello,
I have heard of people getting braces while in Korea but has anyone moved to Korea with braces already? If so how easy was it for you to sort it out? and how much did it cost?
Thanks in advance,
Keflyn. |

Best to finish it all in your home country. i had them over here and i was getting outrageous quotes like 1000 dollars for removal and a retainer. luckily i found someone who did it for 400 but it was still annoying. im not sure if this is cheap or not but im sure i could have gotten it cheaper or at least the same if i finished it all back home.
It was a hassle to find a dentist who tried not to rip you off and who spoke fluent English. Plus, the dentists who tried to rip me off didnt even ask for any of my charts and info on my teeth which i brought. Best to finish it at home but if you can't try to get referrals from other Koreans or other foreigners as it can be difficult to find a dentist who is fair, who speaks English and who won't charge a fortune.
good luck |

| I can't finish them off home as I've already been accepted into EPIK (plus, no idea how long I have left. I think current orthodontists is rubbish), I'll ask some people who have had them while in Korea. Who was your one? Which city? |

Don't know where you're from, but compared to Canada, Korean dentistry is a steal, especially if you don't have dental insurance.
Take a Korean with you and see if you can get a better price if you think the $1000 questionable. |

| I would think the OP is from somewhere where it's cheaper to have them removed there. |

I'm from England and my braces are currently free (had them for 3 years, got them before I was 1 . I don't mind paying for braces though, most likely do a better job. |

Dentistry that is covered under National Health is a steal here...braces however, are not covered...my Uni students say they are about 4-5k for braces depending on the case (same as the US).... |

Sorry, I forget exactly where but I had to go into Seoul to get them done. Couldnt find anyone who spoke fluent English. The dentist I saw went to school in the States and she came back to open up practice in Korea.
I asked my dentist in Canada if 400 is fair and he said it was. considering most of the cost went towards the retainer and then i guess it depends on the dentist they can charge whatever they want for the labour. the dentist in Korea removed my braces cleaned my teeth a bit, took some xrays, and then i had to come back for the retainer. I'm sure once u get here u can ask one of the Korean teachers at your school and they can refer you to someone and you can ask for a quote. I just tried to find a dentist who spoke English cause I didnt want to have to drag someone with me all the time. |

| On this same theme, I am thinking of getting braces in Korea - anyone had any good experiences? |

| I got the last of my braces off a few months back (just some wire on the back of my bottom front teeth) and my orthodontist didn't give back my retainer. I wonder if I can go to a Korean orthodontist and request a retainer to prevent my teeth from moving? |

From what I understand that is your retainer or at least this is what my orthodontist told me. After I have my braces removed they will "permanently" bond a retainer to the back of my bottom front teeth. |

Before my last trip to my orthodontist I had a retainer for my upper teeth which I just wore at night and the wire to the back of my bottom front teeth. Now I have neither and the orthodontist just told me to come back if I had any problems again. I'm happy with my teeth as is and don't want to have them get crooked or have gaps so I thought I could be pro-active and wear a retainer as a preventative measure. Maybe I'm just being paranoid and my teeth will stay in place (orthodontist said the roots were really long) but I don't think an orthodontist would mind any extra money being thrown at his/her way either. |
