Groove

Ten Magazine

The Korean Times

The Korean Herald.

Stars and Stripes

BEWARE the expat magazines; the writing in the reviews, travel pieces etc is godawful, truly godawful. I always feel the same after reading them mentally as I do physically after drinking cheap booze or eating Chinese street stall noodles.

Also the food reviews are biased and often way off base. They're okay for finding out about events, but even then, they are usually over hyped.

Just MHO.

Thanks!

I'm not too interested in the writing pieces honestly. Just looking for some info.

Thanks again!

Groove has actually stepped up in recent months in terms of content and layout. 10 is really circling the drain. Last issue I read 1/3 of the page space was taken up with ads. I know bills have to be paid, but that seems like a bit much.

I miss Eloquence. For a while there they really had it together.

Diplomacy magazine. http://www.diplomacykorea.com/aboutus/private.asp

Not the best quality, but gets some solid interviews from the Seoul Diplomatic corp.

10 Magazine is somewhat useful for finding out about new restaurants, but even then it's a bit useless. It very seldom expands beyond Itaewon and usually reads as a blog in paper format. But hey, when my iPod dies and I have an hour ride home on the subway, it tends to kill about twenty minutes.

10 is Steven Revere's outfit, the guy from those Let's Speak Korean vids. I had high hopes for the rag, but as others have mentioned it has really gone down the crapper (not that it was ever great to begin with).

I'd recommend snatching a free copy somewhere so you at least have access to the ads in case you need restaurant ideas, etc., but hopefully someone knows of a better mag. 10 is decent for browsing, but that's about it (the writing is generally horrendous, as another poster mentioned).

It's less widely circulated (at least in itaewon), but 'Seoul' magazine is not that bad (as far as I remember). It's run by the guy who runs the Marmot's Hole if I remember right. If worse comes to worst, it has great maps (of areas beyond just itaewon).

It's available mostly in touristy areas, especially in Gwanghwamun/Jongno.
