Oh, for the good old days of higher taxes, plenty of jobs and a government surplus. Is it really just 10 years ago? How soon we forget.
Remember that Einstein quip about repeating the same behavior being the definition of mental illness? Have you seen Pawlenty's proposal (even more right-wing than Ryan's?
In a time of high unemployment does it make sense to lay off ever more teachers, police, firemen, and other government employees? Hmmm, if we add more unemployed to the unemployment line, that will make unemployment go down. 'Logic' like that makes my head spin.
For the moment, Republicans have no interest in moving the nation�s debate toward investments in job creation because they gain twice over from keeping Washington mired in discussions on the deficit. It�s a brute fact that Republicans benefit if the economy stays sluggish. And despite their role in ballooning the deficit during the Bush years, they will always outbid Democrats on spending cuts.
