hi there-

i'm returning to korea after several years teaching in dubai. i would like to know the best times of year to find a job in korea. i would also know if it's better to commit to a job a few months in advance, or wait until closer to the time i intend to start.

in my case, i thought going for september would be a good starting time, but it seems that i missed the gepik/smoe deadline for public schools, and that hagwons don't hire far enough in advance.

suggestions from those who know?

Hagwans hire all year around.

Public school primary recruitment drives are in May/June (for August starts) and Dec/Jan for March 2 (new school term starts).

As you have noted, the vast majority of hires are done from 60 days in advance to ASAP. The main reason is that schools (by contract) usually only have 30-60 days notice of non-renewal of a teacher and thus the need to hire a replacement.

Start looking when you are ready to make the jump. Start preparing your documents about 16 weeks ahead of time (it usually takes 3-5 MONTHS to get them in order - especially of you are abroad). They are good for 6 months from date of issue.
