I have a friend who works at a POLY in Seoul. Keeping in mind that each branch is different, she makes a lot of money but also works really long hours, like ten hour days. They sound like a reliable hagwon though.
My personal opinion (I told my friend this as well) is that if you want to make a lot of money, find a public school that offers overtime classes. One PS overtime class per day (or 5 per week) at 20,000 won per class x about 20 working days in a month + regular monthly starting salary = about 2.5 million won total per month for only 27 classes per week (less classes than the average hagwon). |

Thanks for the reply!
I have 2 friends working for POLY as well and they're pretty satisfied, even though the hours are quite long.
I was just wondering about the Bucheon location specifically. Anyone there or has worked there before??
Thx! |

I've had friends who have worked there....none currently. As far as I remember, they worked pretty long hours, and had a variety of ages to teach from preschool (3-4 year olds) to middle school or high school, and like any hagwan the teachers were expected to perform really well and retain a lot of kids. They paid on time and followed the contract. I don't think they would lowball you, as it is a major franchise they will stick to the contract.
Sorry this isn't first hand, but that is what I remember people telling me... |

I just finished a contract at the Bucheon Poly campus you were asking about... do not work at this hagwon. It discredits the good reputation of Poly schools across Korea. The pay was not always on time, the actual working hours were more than contracted, the apartment did not come fully furnished, and the director... well. That's a novel right there. Screaming at employees, firing others early to save money (supposedly because of minor dress code violations). Now, I'm at a great new school that has restored my faith in hagwons, because this school did everything possible to destroy it.
Email me at [email protected] if you want to know more. |
