I was having trouble getting a copy of my degree notarized, but I finally found a friend who knows a notary who did it for me. She simply stamped and signed my diploma and then I sent it off to get the apostille.
However, when the apostilled diploma came back it had a paper attached rather than a seal and on the bottom it says, "This Apostille only certifies the authenticity of the signature and the capacity of the person who has signed the public document, and, where appropriate, the identity of the seal or stamp which the public document bears. This Apostille does not certify the content of the document for which it was issued."
A letter was included that stated, "The document submitted is not a properly certified copy. In the future, please have either the notary or document custodian attest that it is a true and exact copy and include the exact date of notarization. Please add "true copy" and the date to your document before forwarding to South Korea."
I was unaware that a form needed to be included and notarized rather than the actual copy of my diploma, granted I didn't do much research before having it done. Does this mean I need to get another notarized copy with the proper form attached or will the apostille they provided be valid with a statement and date?
I'd appreciate any advice. My original paperwork is from Georgia, but I'm currently in Illinois until my return to Korea and apparently Illinois doesn't allow notarization of copies. And here I thought the diploma was supposed to be the easy part, just my luck. Anyway, thanks for any help or advice. |
