is fricking awesome!!
jk, i don't know how you can bastardize duck so bad that it tastes like hot dogs. i'm always a little upset whenever it's on the lunch menu at school. |

| Yeah, I've given it a few chances and I'm still impressed with the Korean ability to dry out the greasiest bird on earth. |

You can't base your entire opinion of Korean duck on school lunch food. Just think if all you ate was school lunch in your home country.
Have you had it in a restaurant? It's magically delicious. |

I have. It's okay, but doesn't really do the bird justice. Rubbery skin and fairly dry meat. |

| I've had some very tasty duck dinners at a number of rural locations in Kyeong Sang Nam Do, some really good eating. |

| Sounds like you just had some back luck with the restaurants you picked. I have had some really great duck here. Although, I usually go to the places where you can grill the meat yourself. Overcooked meat isn't worth eating in my book. |

Best way to enjoy excellent Korean duck: hit the road and check out some of the rural restaurants. There are some real gems out there!
Same thing with meat, in the Gyungju area for example there are some amazing beef places. |

i've tried it at duck restaurants that specialize in duck as well.

i like korean duck well enough. if only because i've only rarely had european/american versions (which are amazing) and i really hated the one time i had beijing duck (in beijing).
but yeah, i didn't realize i was being served duck at school initially. i assumed it was pork or something. only the skin gives it away. |

beijing duck was the best thing i had in china, hands down.
but cantonese style roasted duck is pretty gnarly too.
korean duck however, gets a two thumbs down. |

how can people like beijing duck? it just tastes like oily, fat air.
i prefer the meat rather than what equates to basically a pork-rindish duck skin snack.
best things i had in china were hotpot and street-side lamb skewers (and sandwiches).
off-topic: korea has the worst street food in the world. japan runs a close 2nd (the only real standout are the VERY rare street ramen stalls) |

i don't know what kind of restaurant you went to, but we got served the skin and the meat, then the bones/fat were made into a broth at the end. |

I had meat too, but the majority of the duck, due to the way it is prepared, was the very thick and crispy skin. all served with some sort of thin wraps and green onions.
this was the showcase/main event, though:

basically, what was supposed to be the most enticing part of the dish was, for me, the worst, so what's the point?
it didn't help that some little kid was puking her guts out at the next table (expensive restaurant by beijing standards, as well), but that really wasn't the reason I came away unimpressed, haha. |

Duck is soo like lamb. So easy to muck up, awesome if it's done right. The best duck I've had was in Singapore, home-cooked meal.
My Peking Duck came with the head, cleaved in two and filled with brainy...g...go...goo...*barf* |

You sure about that? I'm sure Canada would give Korea a run for it's money for worst street food. You only have maybe 3 choices hot dogs, fries or pretzels. |
