Hey all,
This is the last post I'll make about FC2. Here's a map of the festivities and the Facebook RSVP page.

Again, the price is 20,000 Won. We've got, at last count, 18 restaurants, 20 vendors, more than 24 different foods to try, a scavenger hunt, an afterparty with photo booth, and TONS of prizes!!! |

Sooooo, you're saying we should *cancel* the nude kimchi-jello wrestling match? |

20,000 to hang out in haebangcheon? How big are these samples? Do I get five thimbles of beer, one sour dough biscuit, one taco, etc?
Seems like a poor value but I guess that's just me. |

I thought the last one was overpriced for the amount of actual samples that were given out. 20,000? And no one ever getting back to me about getting a scoby or grains? No thanks. Several vendors were trying to get us to sign up for their cooking classes and whatnot (ridiculously expensive) and we could get grains/scobies that way, but last time it was advertised that they would be given away at the event.
Anyway, the last one was disappointing and I won't be paying more than double the price of the last one. |

Uhh, thanks for giving me a chance to answer your question before deeming it a "poor value". Actually there are 18 stations (restaurants) and each one will have at least one person vending food products. Some will have several people. Some vendors will give as much as they can, some people like "Street Beer collective" will be extremely generous. I'd say go to the facebook page or the website: flavors.me/fermentevent and check out the crap-load of stuff we have going that day. If you still feel like it's not worth it, hey that's fine. |

Yeah, I saw the facebook page - how else would I have mentioned "sourdough biscuits." 20,000 doesn't sound like a good deal for a few free samples in Haebangcheon. After all, they are there to sell their wares, are they not? Aren't samples their exposure/advertising? What am I paying for?
And how much is a year membership at Costco?
Still, I wish you luck. |

Oi vey. This is the second or third time you've written this, and I even think I've personally emailed you about the issue. Kombucha scobys were definitely there as part of koala-tea. If they were all snatched up, I don't know. This time there will also be scobys and kefir up for grabs, but that's what they are, up for grabs and when they're gone they're gone. As far as contacting people, if I spaced on ya, sorry, but there were multiple people to contact, not just myself.
That said, the overcrowding was an issue, which is exactly why this is a block party/food walk: to alleviate that problem. Tickets will also be capped at a certain number.
As an aside, yes, people were promoting a makkoli making class at an event about fermentation. The horror. If I recall correctly the class is 50,000 Won, with dinner, your own makkoli kit, and like 2 hours of lessons on fermentation science...all of which is apparently "ridiculously expensive" to learn a new skill that will make you happy the rest of your life. There will be things for sale this time around too and in all cases we feel like they add to the event and giving people a chance to take home some things that just aren't available in Korea. |

Actually, no, not all of the people are there to sell stuff. There's maybe 5 people selling but as far as the rest, you're basically paying 1,000 per sample if you want to break it down like that. Again, it's extremely facetious to call 20+ samples "a few". And the admission price itself pretty much goes right back to the vendors to pay them for taking the time to make what they brought. Also, it's not just Haebongcheon. Again, it's 18 restaurants going from Haebongcheon up into Kyeongnidan.
BTW, have you ever been to anything like "The Taste of Chicago"? That's an event where you definitely pay at least $20 to get like 2 or 3 samples. |

Just to give everyone fair warning, tickets will be capped at 330.
Please come right at 1pm because the day is in two sessions: Haebongcheon and Kyeongnidan. If you miss the Haebongcheon side there's no going back! |

Yes, this is the 2nd time I've written about this but you ignored it in the other thread and certainly never PMed me, even if you somehow got my email address I never received an email.
We got there early, before it got ridiculously crowded (as it did on our way out). We were some of the first people there and Koala specifically told us that they did not bring any scobies to the event.
Kefir guys told us to join their email list, never was contacted by them either. But they would give us kefir if we signed up for that class.
Talk about false advertising.
Oh, and the beer guys were waaaay stingy. I'd be surprised if it's worth the 20,000 won. Better spent at a bar or family mart, I'd say. |

Won't be able to make it, have other plans , but would be interested in getting some info about classes passed along to me. Really about any class, doing the homebrew thing would be cool whilst in Korea. |
