Hey I've decided I want to make the 3DS the first handheld I own since the GBC but I'm having trouble getting hold of one.

It seems the only 3DS available here are Gmarket imports from Japan (350 000 KRW), which will be region-locked to Japan and the console and games will be in Japanese.

So it seems my options are:

A) Getting a US-region 3DS from Play-Asia.com for US$ 274.90 (299,800 KRW) + 18,000 KRW for shipping

B) Ordering a South-East Asian 3DS from Maxsoft (Nintendo SE Asia distributor) version which is the North American version with warranties tied to Singapore/Malaysia. I don't seem to be able to get a price for this.

C) Picking one up when I go back to South Africa for my August vacation, cheapest price I can find R2750 (US$ 407) which is ridiculous. A South African 3DS would be region-locked to Europe and I think it's harder getting hold of EU-region games in Korea than NA games?

D) Buying a North American 3DS in Hong Kong during my 12 hour lay-over en route to South Africa.

E) Asking an American buddy whose going back over there for vacation to purchase one on my behalf.

What is my best/most viable option for getting hold of one of these marvels? ^_^

Cheapest option will be E since, if he opens it, you will not have to pay import taxes on and it will be reliable.

Yeah would be the cheapest but the temptation of getting one earlier for the plane rides to/from Cape Town might be too much

If I end up getting a US system would Play-Asia be the best bet for getting North American region games, or does anyone know of places within Korea selling them?

Also, would the only drawback of living in the "wrong" region be that I can't buy local games, it won't affect any other features like internet browsing, system updates, streetpass etc?

So I ended up ordering a 3DS from Play-Asia.

This morning I got a call from a woman at customs at Incheon Airport that they want to charge me an additional 60 US$ just for the 3DS. That is just for customs charges, so it's on top of my Fedex charge that I've already paid to Play-Asia So I said that the cost is way too high and that I want to cancel my order. I hadn't heard about anyone having these kind of issues with getting things in from Play-Asia? Have Korean customs gotten more ridiculous lately or is this an exception?
