Hey teachers!
I'm looking to get out of Seoul. Any weekend trip suggestions? I'm trying to avoid going somewhere crowded (a challenge in Korea).
Any smaller, more secluded beaches or beach towns?
Other hidden gems?
I'd really appreciate any help.

Muui-do or Muui Island near Incheon is a decent beach that also has some hiking and not a lot of people.

Getting to the airport is fairly easy and quick from Seoul. After that you'll take a short bus ride to where the ferry is located. Last year it was 3,000 won to ride across. Then you'll take the bus to 1 of 2 beaches. One you can walk to another nearby island Silmi-do when the tide is out (it almost always is). If you like exploring and/or drinking on the beach without crowds it's a good get away. You can even rent a small shack and spend the night.
Of course there are nicer places, but Koreans flock to them. |

Is this a decent beach for swimming? Is it warm enough to swim yet? |

If you could rent a car, or have access to one, I highly recommend the area around Chiaksan/Wonju (not Wonju itself). It doesn't fit your prerogative of beaches, but it's beautiful, very secluded, and there are clean rivers where you can hang out and swim. I chose to go there a couple weeks ago specifically because I read that it's not the most popular tourist destination. It really reminds me of the part of Western New England where I grew up, sans the New Yorkers, if you're familiar with the East Coast of the US. |

It's okay for swimming when the tide is in, but when the tide is out you have to walk close to a mile to get to the water.
As for warmth, I was further south this weekend and the water was pretty cold, but bearable I suppose.
I went there for a holiday weekend last year and ended up with about 30 drunk waygooks screaming on the beach and banging on my hut until all hours of the night. Just be aware you might get this if you go over a long weekend. Could be a positive or a negative I suppose. |

That sounds awesome. I've been in that area before, but only for a quick hike. I'll look into it! |

That would be a negative.... fingers crossed this doesn't happen. |

I'm taking my bike on the bus and going to Gangneung this weekend - going to ride to the Unification Park and see the North Korean submarine and US destroyer, then going to hang out on one of the many beaches in the area. |

Are the beaches in the area are swim-able and not over crowded? If so, that could be another nice little get-away.
I'm basically trying to avoid Hae-un-dae. The beach and the film. |

Yes, you can swim. As far as crowded, it's not Haeundae, and it's not that far into the warm season, so I imagine it'd be fairly open. |

Seo-piri beach on Deokjeok-do in the West Sea is a lovely beach and not busy except for two weekends per year when it's invaded by ESL-ers armed with frisbee's. |

If you go soon it will most likely be fine. Koreans generally don't consider it warm enough to go to the beach until July. If you wait a few weeks it can be crowded, but it very much depends on where you go. Gyeongpo beach in Gangneung is one of the most popular on the entire East coast, but there are other smaller beaches around that aren't as bad. |

I'll be out there this weekend as well. Hopefully the rain will hold off on Saturday! |
