the first year I rode a scooter, I did not wear eye protection and every where I went I would have to clean all the crap out of my eyes for 5 minutes.

now I wear eye protection and it's a huge difference.

I see Koreans on motorcycles with no eye protection and constantly wonder how do they do it?

is it because their eyes are slanted?

Absolutely. In fact, hundreds of years ago Koreans had round eyes like you. Generations of gliding through polluted air by horseback have molded their eyes into the slanted shape you're familiar with today. Thus Koreans have evolved into the perfect scooterists.

Sunglasses work for me, along with a cyclists face mask.

what I mean to say is: does having slanted eyes somehow protect you from the air?

I don't think I have ever seen a rider protect their eyes; even those who actually wear helmets usually always have the visor up.

there were times when I was blinded by stuff flying into my eyes and nearly crashed!

how do they do it!?

Confused (puzzled cause I would sure like to ride with nothing on my head)

no. I don't believe that is why they don't wear protection

Koreans don't wear protection for anything, why should their eyes be any different. Smile

I have a pair of very light Oakley rip-off glasses (almost totally clear) that I got in Itaewon for 10,000 won. I also have a darker pair. I wear the lighter ones at night, and the darker ones during the day.

I agree with you that eye protection here is a really good idea. Was going without recently, and got whacked in the cheek by a rock, and realized I'd better be wearing the glasses. So now I always do, unless I'm just puttering down the street at 10kmh.

I met a guy who looked guilty and forlorn when he recalled how his girlfriend went into the hospital after he was struck and stung by a bee while biking down the highway with gf as passenger. I think about that when I bike wearing a cotton 'germ mask' (blue, from the pharmacy) for a thousand won. Just throw it in the washer from time to time. And goggles because busses and trucks luger out oafish chunks of grit which, without protection, you have to stop and prod out with a finger.
I wouldn't doubt those squinty, Mongolian eyes like those of eskimos are the best there are if you don't have bike goggles.

I've been looking for a pair of goggles like Superfly's doggie. Anyone have a clue where to find a pair?

The position of "your" eyelid at rest would naturally change to accommodate the force. No, no relative difference due to eyelid position when wind force is created. You will find that the line of sight changes ever so slightly as your eyelid closes down, and ALL human eyes lose their line of sight at the same rate.

If you're asking if an Eskimo has a better chance than an Englishman at seeing a moose at 20 meters in a snowstorm the answer is..... NO. Smile Smile

I thought maybe your hairstyle provided all the sun and rain protection you needed. Smile
