I land in manila a couple days before my friends. I need to know of some cool places to go and see.

First, does Manila have a cool backpackers area that i can hang out at for a day before heading out? Any recommendations on places you've stayed, good places to eat at and drink at? I wouldn't mind finding other people that want to tour some of the near by coasts or hikes, and i figure i could find some crew in Manila if it is anything like other SE Asia backpackers areas.

So where are cool costal spots or hikes near Manila?

In the Manila vacinity what is nice to see?

also when my friends get in, we are thinking of going to Puerto Galerna. Has anyone been there? what would you recommend there? Or what areas near manila have chill beaches, but cool places to stay too?


Also, I am not trying to go to Angeles City, or get involved in that sort of devilish stuff. So i am not looking for bar-girl type hangouts.

You might try the Bay walk but anywhere you go in Manila don't go alone. It is the wild west of Asia. Another nice place is the SM Mall of Asia. If you don't want Angeles style don't go to Edesa. And what ever you do make sure you secure your belongings under 2 locks one of my friends stayed in Manila and had a camera lifted.

Get out of manilla. Dirty and dangerous. Ive known a couple people robbed there. You dont even have to be in a bad area. A taxi will just take you to one. I would feel safer on the Pakistan/afghan border than some neighborhoods in manilla. Cesspool.

i spent a morning photographing churches and an afternoon photographing jeepney art in manila. pm me if you want a full list of locations. i also photographed an all day cockfight derby but those take a little planning and luck to get to.
