I'm considering buying an Entry level DSLR. My price range is around 500-650,000 (including lens). I'm also just looking to learn a bit about the basics of photography and have something that's a clear improvement over my current point and shoot, since I don't have the time to get really serious about it now.

If I were back in the States, then the 1100d would be the obvious choice, since I could probably get it for around 600$. But with import prices it seems to be much higher here. So my question is - would it make a big difference to go for the 1000D? I don't mind going for the older model, but if I can get something better for a similar price I'd go for that. And would there be any places where I can get the 1100d for a good price without haggling?

Try a store called Pixdix maybe? That's where I got my canon 60d

or you could buy my 3 year old 350d hehe. perfect entry level camera and not too old

Why not get an EVIL camera? They have no mirror inside so they are much smaller and lighter than regular DSLR's, and you can change lenses on them as well. The Sony NEX-3 or NEX-5 should be in your price range.

If you were back in the states wouldn't the 500d be more obvious? It's a big step up from the 1000/1100d and is in ur price range. As for here in Korea, I would recommend you check out dpreview (google it). Great reviews, comparisons of all the dslrs you can think of. I don't have much info about you so I wouldn't know what to suggest but that site will help you make an informed decision for sure.
