Hello,

I was just wondering when we,English teachers have to get our blood pressure taken for the medicalexam,is it taken on the Upper Arm or the wrist?

Now ,I know it should be taken on the Upper Arm but I am just wondering as I am going to buy a Blood pressure monitor in order to keep check of my blood pressure.

Who can tell me if it is taken on your wrist or Upper Arm,

Thanks!
Natasha

To measure blood pressure, they put a cuff on your upper arm. It is designed to cut off your blood flow so they can read the pressure as it flows back into your veins after they release pressure. i.e. It is supposed to hurt.

With all the bones in your wrist they won't get an accurate reading.

Sphygmomanometer. Cool word. One of those things everyone knows what it is but few know its name.

You will have to have your blood pressure measured. It's an essential part of any full physical exam.
Most hospitals have two kinds of blood pressure machines. Automatic and the old fashioned style. The automatic kinds are availables for the general publics convenience. You can do it yourself without consulting a doctor. They are easy to use but not considered to be very accurate.

The old fashioned kind involve the doctor putting an inflatatble strap around your upper arm. These are considered more accurate. If you are going for a medical that will be seen by your employer it's best to relax and think nice thoughts when this is being done as not to get whitecoat Hypertention and a false positive.

Drink lots of coffee and run to your appointment. Remember that everyone in that hospital is judging you and if you have a slightly elevated blood pressure you might lose your job.
Also, if possible take some pre-workout supplements prior to the test as well.

Laughing Mine was elevated and the co-teacher waved off the doctor when he told me to come back and have it checked again. I thought she didn't give a damn if I was going to get a stroke or something, maybe not Laughing

LOL same thing happened to me. After the hospital appointment we had Samgyupsal and soju. Hardly the perfect choice for someone with high blood pressure.

Mine was upper arm, but the doctor couldn't get a reading so he just put down some phony numbers (I was watching him closely just for curiosity and he tried it twice - I don't think he put the cuff on the right way)
