Okay I know nothing about it and don't care for it myself, but i have a friend coming over for a week that loves it (like did competitions and stuff)

can someone recommend a place to go that has some decent salsa music and dance (non sleazy).

esp Ceroc dancing does it exist here?

I found a few links, but have no idea which ones are good,or which ones to stay away from

Turn in Kangnam is great; very chill scene, and a lot of instructors and competitive dancer types go there to party. Top in Apgujeong is really good too.

In Itaewon, America Latina is a nice place but the last time I was there I sorta had to play bouncer with one guy. Being right next to Hooker Hill probably brings in a few creeps, although the club itself is not sleazy.

I know Hongdae has some good places too, but to date I've been too lazy to get up there Smile. Sorry I don't know much but I hope that helps. Have fun!

For swing:

There is no Ceroc. There is tons of lindyhop/charleston (every day of the week). If your friend is a lindyhopper and travels/goes to competitions, I might know them. There is a teeeensy tiny west coast swing scene. It literally just started a month ago, so there's almost none, but the girl who is starting the scene is a friend of mine. There is a relatively small, but healthy balboa scene too, and a small blues scene. It's hard to find English info for swing dancing, it's almost all in Korean on Daum cafes. But there's the link posted above, and there's a facebook group called "Fun Swing In Korea". In terms of events coming up, the Ninjammerz are coming in April, and then Damon Stone and Ria DeBiase are coming for a blues workshop sometime after that, maybe May or June, not sure when.

Most swing dance bars are on the green line south of the river.

If you're talking about outside Seoul, there are scenes also in Busan, Jeju, Daegu, Daejeon, Suwon, Incheon and maybe a few other places. I think I heard someone say there was some in Gwangju once, but I really don't know.

Cheers everybody.

I know nothing about swing/salsa and would just like to take her out to a decent place where someone could lead and she can dance (because I know i can't). I just thought seeing she is coming so far to visit me I would try to take her somewhere she might like (plus she hasn't danced in asia)

I'm based in beomgye (anyang) if that makes a difference

to littlelisa unless you are from NZ or have danced in Europe you probably don't know her she doesn't live here. I know she does west coast swing so any info about that would be great. She will be here next thursday for 2 weeks or so.

once again cheers everyone

I'm a little sad there's not Ceroc here, I've been dancing ceroc for 10 months in NZ, but am picking up swing now to occupy my free time. I took a lindy class today in Hongdae, at Happy Bar, the people seem really cool and I had a good time at the class. Will def. be going back, but also going to check out the WCS scene in the next week or so, I really want to get into that.

This just serves to highlight how woefully swing-free all of Pohang is. :< Jerks!

I'll ask my friend about WCS next time I see her, then.

I assumed she was not from here, I did mean in general in NA/Europe/anywhere. Basically, anyone who is a lindyhopper and travels a lot will eventually meet at least briefly anyone else who is a lindyhopper and travels a lot. Not because there are so few of us worldwide, but more about how travelling for dancing is such a big part of lindyhop culture. I've never been to Australia, but it's ridiculous how many Aussie swing dancers I know. I only know one Kiwi, though, so go figure. I've personally danced in Canada, the US, Sweden, Denmark, England, Turkey, Israel, China and here in Korea, for example. Plus, anyone who goes to a big competition anywhere and competes ends up all over youtube anyway, or in dancers' video clips that they share with each other, so people who are good dancers get known all over.

But if she only really does ceroc or WCS and not much lindy, then I'm sure I don't know her. I only have an extensive network of lindyhoppers.

Seoul has the biggest swing dance scene in the world.
There are over 20 clubs and dancing every night.

Those blogspot link you have is great (http://swingkorea.blogspot.com/2008/08/location-of-swing-bars-besides-in-seoul.html ).
Any of the clubs there are wonderful.
My personal favorite is Big Apple at Bangbae. But I've been to practically all of them and enjoyed each.
The dancers here are skilled dancers and good people.

There's a blues dance party on the 19th of this month (not sure when she will be here).

The West Coast swing dance scene is REALLY small. There's a small, but dedicated, group in Apgujeong. Dancing every Saturday night.

Hey cheers

So if someone (female) was just to show up at one of these places they wouldn't have a problem finding a partner? Also what time do to people go? Say turn in Gangnam or big apple in bangbae

Once again thank you
